Routing and wavelength assignment strategies in optical networks

چکیده
We consider the routing and wavelength assignment (RWA) problem on wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) networks without wavelength conversion. When the physical network and required connections are given, RWA is the problem to select a suitable path and wavelength among the many possible choices for each connection such that no two paths using the same wavelength pass through the same link. In WDM optical networks, there is need to maximize the number of connections established and to minimize the blocking probability using limited resources. This paper presents efficient RWA strategies, which minimizes the blocking probability. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed strategies is much better than the existing strategy. © 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

A Novel Protection Guaranteed, Quality of Transmission Aware Routing and Wavelength Assignment Algorithm for All-optical Networks
Transparent All Optical Networks carry huge traffic and any link failure can cause the loss of gigabits of data; hence protection and its guarantee becomes necessary at the time of failure. Many protection schemes were presented in the literature, but none of them speaks about protection guarantee. Also, in all optical networks, due to absence of regeneration capabilities, the physical layer i...
متن کاملProtection and Restoration Strategies in WDM Mesh Networks
This paper analyzes strategies for protection and restoration in a WDM network supporting two main classes of services. We refer to a scenario in which the optical network interacts with Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) based networks. We analyze routing, wavelength assignment, and protection/restoration issue. First the analysis is done at a pure optical level, handling the traffic with w...
متن کاملEfficient routing and wavelength assignment for reconfigurable WDM networks
Through the use of configurable wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) technology including tunable optical transceivers and frequency selective switches, next-generation WDM networks will allow multiple virtual topologies to be dynamically established on a given physical topology. For node port networks, we determine the number of wavelengths required to support all possible virtual topologies...
متن کاملA New Model for Optimal Routing in All–Optical Networks with Scalable Number of Wavelength Converters1
A novel approach for modeling the optimal routing and wavelength assignment problem in wavelength division multiplexed all–optical networks is proposed. It is assumed that the optical switching nodes are equipped with a limited and scalable set of wavelength converters which can be used by any subset of incoming optical–connections. The proposed model, called the interconnected–layered–graph, p...

Optical networks have been widely implemented and they are usually used as the backbone of high-capacity telecommunication infrastructures. However, the nowadays traffic demand over these networks has increased in a way that congestion over the architecture is considerable. Due to the high costs of implementing new optical links, the routing and wavelength assignment process become an important...
